Departure

Migration focus:
Days in Northern Serengeti near the Mara River give the best chance to see the Great Wildebeest Migration crossings (July–October).

Day 1: Arrival – Kilimanjaro International Airport

Your adventure begins upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, the main gateway to Tanzania’s Northern Safari Circuit. After clearing immigration and meeting your safari guide, you will be transferred to your lodge near Arusha for rest and a short briefing about the upcoming safari. Depending on arrival time, you may enjoy views of Mount Kilimanjaro or relax and prepare for the wildlife adventure ahead.

Day 2: Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, depart for Tarangire National Park, famous for its vast elephant herds, ancient baobab trees, and seasonal wetlands. The park is part of a vital wildlife migration corridor and is home to lions, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, and many bird species. Game drives take place along the Tarangire River, the park’s lifeline, where animals gather to drink, especially during the dry season.

Day 3: Serengeti National Park – Central Serengeti

The journey continues toward the legendary Serengeti. Driving through the scenic highlands and the Ngorongoro region, you enter the endless plains of the Serengeti. This area, particularly the central Serengeti (Seronera region), is known for its year-round wildlife concentrations. During the game drive, you may encounter lions, cheetahs, elephants, and large herds of wildebeest and zebras moving across the plains.

Day 4: Northern Serengeti National Park – Great Migration

Travel north toward the remote northern Serengeti, close to the border with Kenya’s Maasai Mara National Reserve. This region is famous for the dramatic Mara River crossings during the Great Migration. Millions of wildebeest and zebras attempt to cross crocodile-filled waters as they follow fresh grazing lands. Game drives focus on locating migration herds and witnessing this incredible wildlife spectacle.

Day 5: Northern Serengeti National Park – Mara River Area

Spend a full day exploring the northern Serengeti ecosystem. With patience and timing, you may witness one of nature’s most dramatic events as thousands of wildebeest plunge into the Mara River while predators and crocodiles lie in wait. Besides the migration, this region also hosts lions, leopards, elephants, and large herds of buffalo.

Day 6: Central Serengeti National Park

Begin the journey back toward the central Serengeti with game drives along the way. This area is rich in predators thanks to the permanent Seronera River and abundant prey. It offers excellent opportunities to see lions resting on kopjes, cheetahs hunting across open plains, and large herds of grazing herbivores.

Day 7: Ngorongoro Conservation Area – Ngorongoro Crater

Travel to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater. Descend into the crater floor for a game drive in one of Africa’s most wildlife-dense environments. The crater hosts lions, elephants, hyenas, flamingos, and one of the best chances to see the endangered black rhino. Surrounded by towering crater walls, the scenery and wildlife make this a highlight of the safari.

Day 8–9: Departure – Kilimanjaro International Airport

After breakfast, drive back toward Arusha and continue to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your outbound international flight. As your journey concludes, you leave with unforgettable memories of Tanzania’s landscapes, abundant wildlife, and the awe-inspiring spectacle of the Great Migration.
